A cidade de Seul, na Coréia do Sul, foi escolhida capital mundial do design de 2010, tendo vencido o concurso internacional promovido pela IDA (International Design Alliance).
O anúncio foi feito pelo Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) no último sábado, 20 de outubro, durante a sessão de encerramento do congresso da organização em São Francisco, EUA.
O impacto do design no desenvolvimento social, cultural e econômico de Seul, principalmente na última década, assim como a importância de algumas marcas coreanas de alta tecnologia (como Daewoo, Hyundai, LG, Samsung, entre outras) no mercado mundial, foram decisivos no reconhecimento do status alcançado pela capital sul-coreana nesse campo de atividades.
A notícia vem se somar ao anúncio do lançamento do “Dia Mundial do Desenho Industrial“, que será realizado no dia 29 de junho de 2008, com o intuito de reconhecer e comemorar mundialmente a profissão e suas contribuições para a qualidade de vida do público em geral.
